AI scanning

AI Product Scanner: From Photo to Price

Point your phone at an item and FlipForge tells you what it is, how confident it is, and what it realistically sells for on the marketplaces you use.

How a scan works

  1. 1

    Take or upload a photo

Shoot the whole item plus a close-up of the data plate or label. Good light and a plain background noticeably improve identification.

  2. 2

    Review the identification

You get brand, product name, category, type, condition, features and accessories, along with an identification confidence level of high, medium or low.

  3. 3

    Confirm the model

If the model number is not clearly visible, FlipForge says so rather than guessing, and offers its closest candidate models. You confirm or correct the model before any pricing runs.

  4. 4

    Research the market

FlipForge looks up comparable listings across marketplaces and reports asking and sold ranges, an estimated resale value, a recommended listing price and a quick-sale price, with links to the sources.

  5. 5

    Check the profit, then save

Adjust purchase cost, repairs, fees and shipping to see your profit. Nothing is saved automatically — use the result to prefill an inventory item when you are happy with it.

What you get back

Identification

Brand, product name, model where visible, category, type, condition, key features and accessories — plus a confidence level and candidate matches.

Pricing

Estimated resale value, recommended listing price, quick-sale price and typical used ranges, broken down by marketplace.

Evidence

The comparable listings behind the estimate, with links, so you can check the numbers rather than trusting them.

Profit estimate

Editable purchase cost, repair cost, fees and shipping, so you can see your profit before you buy or list.

Why FlipForge refuses to guess model numbers

Early testing made the problem obvious: a hammer or a drill can be confidently labelled with a plausible model number that simply is not the model in the photo, and every price downstream inherits the error. A wrong model number is worse than no model number, because it looks authoritative.

So FlipForge separates what it can see from what it infers. Visible text is reported as visible; likely matches are reported as likely, with the reasoning; anything unreadable is reported as unreadable. Pricing only runs against a model you have confirmed.

  • Identification confidence and pricing confidence are shown separately.
  • Kit versus bare tool, battery count and included accessories are treated as part of the match.
  • Estimates are ranges, because condition, timing and local demand move real prices.

Scanner questions

How accurate is AI product identification?

It is strong on brand, category, type and condition, and good at narrowing a product to a few likely models. Exact model numbers depend on what the camera can see, so FlipForge reports confidence and asks you to confirm the model instead of presenting a guess as fact.

What if the model number is not visible?

FlipForge states that the model number is not clearly visible, lists two or three closest matches with the visual reasoning behind them, and waits for your confirmation. You can also type the correct model yourself.

Where do the resale prices come from?

From comparable current and recent listings on the resale marketplaces resellers actually use — Facebook Marketplace, eBay and Mercari — matched as closely as possible on model and configuration, with source links so you can verify them.

Does the scanner add items to my inventory automatically?

No. Scan results prefill the add-item form and you decide what to save. Photos and results stay tied to your own account.

How many scans do I get?

The free plan includes a monthly allowance of AI scans and market research requests. FlipForge Pro raises those allowances and adds video pallet scanning and the full deal analysis for $5 a month.
